This feels like a new car!
Hey guys, finally got some pictures of my wheels and tires that I put on my car
I was really interested in the weight differences so here are some pics and specs:
Enkei Racing RPF1 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Tires
Front:
18x8
Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 5.82"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Tire Size:225/40-18
Tire Rack Wheel Weight: 17.8lbs.
Tire Rack Tire Weight: 21 lbs
should be about -- 38.8 lbs
Rear:
18x9.5
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 7.01"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Tire Size:255/40-18
Tire Rack Wheel Weight: 18.6lbs.
Tire Rack Tire Weight: 25 lbs
should be about -- 43.6 lbs
I measured the new wheels and tires and compared them to the stock 17's and stock Potenza's with about 15,000 miles, the assemblies are a bit more than tire rack predicted but there is still a huge weight saving:
Front Stock:
Front After:
Rear Stock:
Rear After:
so the actual weight savings i achieved, not taking into account lost tread, was about 5lbs for the fronts, and 7.5 for the rears...
thats 25lbs of saved unsprung weight and boy does it make a difference...
as you can probably tell im trying to build up the actual pictures of the car, so heres a space filler where you can see the wider rear tires...
the rear "dish" (its really just a decent offset not a dish but it looks awesome):
the rear wheel:
and finally the car:
anyways, back to the whole "it being a new car thing" -- i couldnt put it another way...these wheels and tires have done a wonder for the handling and surprisingly just the get up of the car, you can feel the lightness, take turns faster and get off the line quicker as well - the tires are surprisingly hard to chirp, even in the wet, especially in comparison to the stock shoes
that isnt to say that this car couldnt use some, oh i dont know, lowering springs/shocks, sway bars, and a little bit more power from 'somewhere', but all in due time
as it stands, i love the stance, i love the look and most of all i love the feel!

I had the same feeling when I changed to lighter F-Sport rims with PS2's. Surprisingly the ride is even smoother with my current 19" setup vs. the 18" G-Spiders with RE050's.

they say for every lb you save in unsprung weight (Wheels/Tires/Brakes) is like shaving 10 lbs off your car.
my volks are about 17+ lbs each (18x9) plus the tires were 24 lbs (Goodyear F1 Asymmetrical) each so yea, about 41 lbs all around with even wider tread all around (255/35-18 compared to stock 225/40-18).
Tires are the best $ for performance upgrades on most cars.
BTW, the car felt toooooooootally agile like I just put on skates or something lol
No more squealing in hard turns anymore either +1

I had RPF1s on my S2000...awesome wheels for the price with substantial weight savings.
One thing I hated about them though was having to fork over an additional $80 just to get the center caps, which don't come with the wheels.
They look naked without them.
