Default How much did dealer charge you to initialize 2nd set of TPMS sensors?

One dealer told me $100, another $75 since they have to program the serial # of where each sensor is located at into the car. Have to call one more place but thought I'd see what others are getting charged before the snows go on.

I asked my dealer to do it last time I had my oil changed and they did it for free.

Sorry for the newb question, but what purpose would a 2nd set of sensors serve? Is it time-consuming to switch from the stock tires to the snow ones?

I paid $100 each for sensor + installation.

Maybe I just got suckered in, but the service mgr. told me that the sensors are easy to damage with repeated switching, so if only going to switch once to a new set of wheels fine, but if I was going to regularly alternate summer and a/s tires every year, should consider getting a second set.

Usually, people buy a 2nd set of sensors to mount on a 2nd set of wheels/tires. Usually popular in states where it snows. While I'm in CA and it doesn't snow here, I have a set of Work wheels for daily driving and I have the OEM wheels for road trips and stuff like that. That way, I can just swap the entire wheel myself without having to go to a shop to swap tires, remount sensors, etc.

On one of my other cars, I actually have 3 sets of wheels -- daily driving, track, and show. The car only knows about 1 set of sensors at a time, but the cool thing is that I dont have to go to a dealer to re-register the sensors each time. Just leave the set on the car for a couple days and the car will re-register whatever set I am using automatically (this car is not a lexus though)

thanks for the replies! aside from the sc430 and new fords that have their tpms systems bonded to the oe wheel the IS system has been the most annoying ive seen. should just be able to put the second set of wheels on and roll... but no you have to have them programed.. ugg

How about taking all the sensors off, installing them in a pressurized little box and throwing throwing it in the trunk.
