so? (where "so" = oil change at 1k or no?????)

I have never heard of a car engine breaking due to too many oil changes...but i have seen and heard many accounts of problems when it is not done enough.
but...i dont think this is the question here...? I think completing the 'first' oil at 1000miles/kms is fine IF you dont intend to switch to a fully synthetic oil. The synthetic stuff is too slippery during the break-in of a new engine. AFAIK, switching to synthetic too soon does not allow the rings and valves to seal and seat properly.

You will get elevated levels of wear debris up until approx 5K miles so I change the factory oil at 1K and again at 5K. You could use synthetic at the first change but if you’re going to change it at 5K, you may want to wait till the second change (at 5K). After 5K you would want to get a used oil analysis (UOA) at the OEM recommended change interval if you plan on extending the change interval. This would be at approx. 10K miles on the engine (5K on the last oil change). This will do two things; first , it would let you know approx how much longer you could go before changing it and it would provide proof in case of a warranty issue. Typically you would see that premium synthetic oil and filter can provide safe protection for one year or 10K miles, whichever comes first. 3K mile oil changes are a waste of money unless you only drive 3K miles a year. Even then you could just change the filter at one year.

The Blackstone will also help if you ever sell your cars private party. The prospective buyer will take note that you aren't the run of the mill owner who basically fills up with gas and doesn't do much more.

The proof is that Lexus themselves don't recomend an oil change until 5k miles with regular dino oil. MB says you can go 10k+ with the Mobile1 they use in their car.
My previous car, a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix went about 6k miles before it would prompt me to change my oil, the car had nearly 200k miles on it when I sold it. Engine still going strong. You can be sure that a 2006 Lexus motor runs a lot cleaner than a 1998 pontiac motor as well.
Bottom line is that 3k oil changes are neither required nor recomended for these cars. If you disagree with that you are wrong, period.

I had a honda accord, and changed the regular non-synthetic oil every 15k or 20k miles. The oil was slightly dark when I drained it, and never looked "burned" or "discolored". I sold the car around 160k miles and it was still running perfectly.
Granted, the accord engines are super smooth and have very little wear, but still, this should prove that modern engines + good oil last FAR longer than the 3k or 5k that people would have you believe.
Heck, even my '05 Jaguar which has non-synthetic oil only calls for changes every 10k.
It's just like using premium gas in a low-compression engine.. It won't do any harm, but it's a waste of money... But hey, if it makes someone feel better, then it's all good Personally, I hate having to do anything to my car other than drive/enjoy it...
