IMO, one of the coolest features is the back-up camera that turns on in reverse mode. Wanted to know if anyone out there knew of a way to activate the camera w/o being in reverse?

I have been wondering the same thing. I dont think I would honestly ever do it, but I am curious to know if I could.

I know there's a way to do it on the 2004 RX, so it would be cool if we could do it to the IS.

Im looking for the whole James Bond- type capabilities while driving. Although I have yet to post about installing rocket launchers in my car.

There's got to be a way. I think all you would need to do is find the wire with the signal form the camera and hook it up to a switch.

yeah you probably just need to find the "reverse" signal wire in the radio harness.

Then figure out if it is tripped by ground or voltage and then put a bypass switch in there.

Thread Hijack Question: How does one get back to the 'camera view' if they press a button while in reverse (i.e. if you change disks, get a phone call etc) without switching back to 'D' and back to reverse.

Having had a rear view camera in my last vehicle that I could switch on at all times, the amount of work to get this done in exchange for a few hours of enjoyment (which is about as long as you'd probably actually use this) is not worth it.

it would be cool if this can be done if you were thinking about turning your car into a drift car.

It would be nice to be able to see how close someone is riding your *** though. I would use this as a tool to help me determine how long I need to wave the magic finger.

If you look at the actual product by Fujitsu-Ten that our system is designed from, you'll see that there is a software option to engage manually. It appears that Lexus in their relentless pursuit of childish protection, has removed it. Scroll down to page 178 in the below PDF to see manual operation.
