Lexus Chief Engineer Q&A plus other info
I received the info below from a Lexus contact I'm working with on planning the Lexfest meet in Baltimore next month, thought I'd share
-------------------------------------------------------------
Here is some interesting news from Lexus in the US:
Lexus wants to help illuminate the 2006 Lexus IS performance credentials by
hosting a forum with the model's Chief Engineer on the Car and Driver
website where enthusiasts can post questions and have them answered
directly by the car's main designer, Suguya Fukusato. Responses will be
shared with everyone who visits the site: watch for the new "Lexus IS
Forum" on www.caranddriver.com under the "community" section, coming August
1st.
In one of the most dramatic promotions ever attempted by Lexus, the new IS
in all its dimensions will be displayed artistically in a mosaic of photos
- your photos - posted to the Times Square Reuters Megascreen in New York
City. On August 3rd the mosaic starts building online and will be
displayed in Times Square beginning September 3rd. Can you imagine? Your
own photo displayed on the most famous billboard in the world. If you're
not going to be around Manhattan in September, view it on-line from our
webcam placed across the street. And if that's not enough, eligible
contributors to the mosaic will be included in a chance to win a brand new
IS. Visit www.thenewIS.com beginning August 3rd.
The Lexus.com IS web site will be updated again on August 3rd with rich and
engaging information on the IS, including colors for each model, special
features and new images. You'll will also be able to sign-up for
additional information and have access to download the Car and Driver Forum
Q & A onto your mobile phone.

Its there, but he hasnt responded to any questions yet. Unless in typical CarandDriver forum fashion, everything is running really slow or messing up.

Sounds like they're not considering offering a 6MT for the IS350 any time soon, if ever It's a very nice car, but they call the new IS a true 3 series competitor? What a joke !!
A HUGE disappointment AFAIC

huh? sounds like they are considering it, but believe there wont be enough sales to justify it. Who knows, if enough people buy IS250 manual... yet I really doubt that number will go over 5% for IS250.
And with their projected sales numbers, that means they would have to make manual transmission for IS350 with projected sales rate of 33 per month, which is way, way, way too low.
Only reason it is different for IS250 is that it will sell in other countries too where manual is 90% of the sales.

Q) Why doesn't Lexus offer a manual transmission in the IS 350? Any plans to do so?
A) The IS 250 is our core model, representing over 80 percent of sales. With this volume, we believe the IS 250 with manual transmission (M/T) will meet the needs for those consumers desiring a 6-speed manual and provides a very competitive value. The volume of M/T sales within the segment the IS 350 will compete is very small, and we do not forecast enough demand to warrant production of a M/T choice for the IS 350. If the market should change, we will, of course, consider a M/T for the IS 350.
