High pitch whistling/whining sound
Good morning CL, I have recently discovered a new problem with my IS250 2008 AWD. Whenever I turn on my car in the morning, there's a high pitch whistling/whining sound that is continuously on until maybe after 5 miles of driving. After that it stays off until the end of my trip, but as I turn the car on and off it won't repeat the noise because I'm assuming that the engine is warmed up or something. Then if i leave the car for about 4 hours until my lunch time, it will occur again. I'm new to cars and its my first car so i have no idea whats wrong and whether something like this would be covered in the powertrain warranty since i have 61000 miles. Thanks for the help!

No i think i know which sound you are referring to and thats the clicking sound of the engine which i found to be irritating in the beginning but i've gotten use to over time. This high pitched sound came recently. I'll try to get a video or sound file up for everyone to hear. Thanks!

Ok i called the dealer and they are saying that it sounds like the drive belt, which they recommend to change every 60000 miles, which is pretty much where i am at. They quoted me around $200 all together, and obvious there's nothing final until they actually inspect it which alone cost $135. Plus they said that this wasn't under warranty because it's wear and tear.
What should i do?

A drive belt is $27

If that's the actual problem then just order one and put it on yourself, it's pretty easy and a lot better than paying over 6 times that at the stealership (and yeah, the drive belt itself wouldn't be under powertrain warranty)
