picking up a 2002 IS300 5sp with flood damage
So im picking up a 2002 IS300 with salvage title due to flood. But the car runs, drives and all electronics work. Is there anything else I should check out before pulling the trigger on buying it? I feel that even if there is something wrong due to water damage, that its worth it ONLY because Im picking it up for only $4500 and its a factory 5speed. The car has 103k miles on it also. Im super excited but also iffy..
What are your guys thoughts...should I get it? I have a true RHD jzs137 Aristo with the non VVTI 2jzgte in it, I plan on pulling it out and putting it into the IS300. Finally will get the 5sp on my GTE.
Give me your thoughts on it. Body is ok, needs rear qtrs painted, someone pulled the fenders before and it comes on megan LP's I think.

Just as long as you have another car you can depend on, go for it ! You will be reengineering the IS300 anyway and will have no fear in cutting it up, so it will be a great project.

just kinda sketchy because its a flood salavge title. I will have to get it inspected by state patrol to get a rebuilt title, then out of state inspection. Im worried about mold in the car, any idea how much new carpet would cost? I was told all the electronics in the car still work so thats good.

I'd be worried more about the water damage to the wires. Especially if it's salt water, you may not have issues now but there is a very big chance of issues down the line and good luck chasing those problems down. And remember, the water doesn't stop at the water line, if it got into a harness, it's pretty likely to have travelled up a bit. Even if it's fresh water, flood water is not all rain and rivers, it's the chemical soup on the ground that got washed up and any waste from sewers.
If you're going to rip out everything and make it a race car, or rip out and replace anything near the water level, and can do it without costing close to a non sketchy car, go for it.
Personally, I'd avoid flood cars for anything other than parts (and I'd be weary of anything electrical and exposed to the water) and at that price, no thanks.

So ive decided as much as i want the 5sp behind my 2jzgte, Im just going to pass on it. I have found a 2001 gs300 for $3600 that I think fits me more. Only problem is that my 2jzgte is a non-vvti, bleh .
