newbie to cl wit a ?
What's up everyone I'm new to club Lexus, and find it very informative, I've been on other sites and also find this to be the friendliest, I got my 03 is 300 a few months back and quickly became interested in making it a fun toy, but is has 215k on and was wondering would it be a good idea to get it rebuild before I got to far ahead my self on buying any performance parts.

Main thing to consider is that if you are running an automatic, do the vb and sprag upgrades( I used SRT), it takes the slush feeling out of the shift, and makes for a fun ride, I personally wouldn't dare boosting an engine with over 200k on it, even 100k for that matter, but if you do, it would be in your best interest to give the transmission some attention too

I would not use Lexus to rebuild your block or trans( plus they will not warranty work on a car that has been messed with that much), most dealerships do not have the equipment needed to fully rebuild a block, what you would be better of doing is: Call all of the machine shops/ engine shops in your area, and get a quote for labor and machine work, have them put together of the parts you will need if you don't already know.
As for your trans, a respectable engine shop will do a trans, and rear end even. If not a drive line and trans shop would be a very good choice. Using specialty mechanics greatly reduces the amount of human error involved, which in turn prevents part failure, which saves money while still getting results.
Try PFS, or SRT for your trans, you will have to ship it to them for the bigger mods, but they know what they are doing. And like dsouthmia0 said, I would go with rebuilding an engine thats already out of the car, and then swap and less down time

Thanks for the info ima shop around and see what I can come up with, the down time is not really a problem I'm away from the car 3 weeks out if each months it just sits in my work yard, so I fig it can get done while I'm away.

Just get a compression check and some attention to the transmission. As far as boosting a motor with over 200k is where it gets iffy. Maybe go with a side build on a motor with a bit less mileage.
