Im refinishing an SD grill....but didnt get results i expected***PIX INSIDE***
So i bought an SD grill off a local friend of mine. it had lots of rock chips. so first go around i had i used self etching primer (2 coats) and then a good black enamel and was going to clear coat it if it looked good. but the rock chips under it all just were too noticeable.
so yesterday i took a low grit paper and sanded down all the rock chips and most of the contact surfaces. then i moved to a very fine grit to take care of any ridges and just give a nice smooth finish. it looked great. so i hit it with some primer and then the enamel again. around some of the places i sanded it...there look to be bubbles in the paint. thoughts? should i sand all down again buy better primer and paint and give it a 3rd try? or should i take it to a sand blaster and then prime and paint?

status with pix
so tonight i decided to hand sand again for the hell of it. here are some pix
when i bought the grill it was heavily chipped and pitted...but still and SD
a lil blurry but you can see to what extent i had my work cut out for me
after sanding it has a unique finish.....made me consider leaving some of it the brushed look and the other painted black..
anyways there is a crack that i am repairing thats why the stack of my business cards are wedged in there. but by tomorrow it should be dry enough to paint.

Done! lemme know what you think. (I also moved the horns since i was already there)
I also took care of an issue. the 2 brackets that hold the alarm relay and the other sensor were heavily rusted from salt deposits since the car came from Illinois. i sanded them and used rustolium on those. im happy with the outcome. I also took 10 of the bolts around that area and prepped them the same way.

NICE WORK!
i think the brushed look with a nice layer of clear coat would have been a nice option. you'd have to get yourself a silver emblem, but a nice alternative for others with let's say a black car perhaps...
