Hey all, was wondering how the sound system on the is300 compares to a good aftermarket setup. I think it sounds pretty decent, but I've never had the chance to listen to a custom setu.

Thanks

The stock audio system in the IS sounds great. The highs sound clean and the rear speakers play bass pretty well. I've heard many sound systems and had many. I've used both high end and inexpensive stereo equipment and the IS 300's sounds great for stock.

I have to agree here. I thought my 98 Prelude had a good stock system. But Damn! The IS has an amazing system. Not to mention the whole Six Disc thing. Plus the new RDS feature is coming soon.

Peace!

Its a Radio Scanning Service that let's you scan stations from around the world for cetrain types of music (IE: Classical, Rock, Hip Hop, etc.) It is going to start in a a month or so. The options are above the Cd loader on the console of the IS 300

Default RDS System in IS 300

The RDS system in the IS 300 radio has been offered for over 3 years now in other manufatures cars. Gm has been offering it in their upscale models such as the Caddy STS and also the Deville. It stands for "Radio Data System" and the bad thing about it is that it really has not caught on with the radio stations. I live in the L.A. area and there are a few that do broadcast it but they just have not gotten into it. It's really sad because it could help out in so many ways. What they can do with it is broadcast info to your radio such as the call letters of the radio station and they can also send text to it. So if they were having a contest for example it could have all the details of it and tell you the number to call and when. Better yet, they could send the name of the artist with the song title while it is being played. That to me would be the best thing instead of waiting to find out the name and then they don't tell you!!! Hate that part. It will also let you search for a type of music that you like. You could search for a Jazz station, a Rock station or even a Talk radio station. There is alot of things you can do with this system, it's just another one of those great ideas that the radio stations just do not see a value in. Just thought you might like a little insight into what that RDS button is for!!

Thanks NDCENT1. That was informative. I didn't get that good of an explantion at the Dealer that I got my IS from. I didn't know that is what made some of the Radio Station's Call Letters come up. It's kind of cool when you see it.

How much space do your subs take up? Is it easy to connect an external amp to the head? Thanks for all the opinions and info people.

I agree that the stock system is very good but felt it lacked bass. I added a sub in the
trunk and am very happy with the results.

Kurt.
