Don't mean to be rude or anything, but are you guys not answering my questions because I have M3 in my name??? I'm thinking about switching over incase your curious but I would like to find out what the potential for making forced induction work on these cars in California (and have it be smog legal to the point where it will pass the sniffer test) is before I go buying one. Thanks.

I don't think there is a CARB approved force induction unit yet BUT ClubLexus is working to get one approved here in California.
Passing a smog test is easy....many ways to do it. Most turbo kits actually clean up the exhaust gas to an even higher standard then OEM.

SRT versus Area 51 FI
To add a little information to Brians post I checked this with Area 51. Talked to their lead sales guy Chuck as well as the supercharger designer Mike. I asked the question about CARB certification bluntly and both said "well, it costs alot of money and we aren't currently persuing it". When I said I thought that would deter alot of people both of them said "you have 3 years and then you can go find a guy who maybe won't look under the hood during the inspection.
My problem with this is if I can't find anyone it will be $1200 for them to take it off and $1200 to put it on again. I would be paying for a new SC every 2 or 3 years.
I hope they will reconsider but for now if that is a concern there are only 2 choices: SRT is persuiing the CARB cert and L-tuned (due in April) from TRD will also be CARB certified.
That is what I know currently.

I have heard the "throw the guy $50 and he'll look the other way" line a hundred times. But where is this guy when I want to pass smog.
I ahd one guy who used to 'help' with my 240 z which wasn't even close to stock and he got popped. Never did find another guy to help me out. Everyone 'knows' someone but no one will pony up when push comes to shove. Feel free to PM me if you have more information or comments!
