My wife has found that the Rx400h does it's best in slow-and-go traffic on the freeway, she can get upwards of 34mpg (but the traction battery drains). When the freeways are clear, she'll cruise 70-75mph and get about 24-26mpg. Gridlock traffic completely drains the battery after a few miles. Her lifetime average is 27.8mpg over 80K miles.

Im at 112k and get really good mpg. Ive driven all over the US a few times so i know how to drive very efficiently but the rx400h battery has to be babied to get good mpg. isc reset performed about once every 2k or so. Makes difference.

I can get around anywhere cruising slowly if no traffic at 35 to 40+mpg depending how warm and slow. I can get 30 to 33mpg driving lightly in thr cith with little traffic. Cali to vegas was 30mpg at 70 to 75mph.

In comparison...i got 50mpg driving to vegas in the new elantra. 38mpg in sonata

...whether or not many can believe this.

consistently getting 26.7 miles per US gallon on the car's readout during my daily commute out of one city, over and into another city 12 miles away. During annually holidays which last anywhere between 2-5 weeks traveling Interstate highways the readout will fall to 23 mpg at 70-75mph. And I love it; never have I enjoyed such luxury, utility, traction and performance in a vehicle this big and heavy....and beautiful!!

Only having owned our 07 Rx400 AWD for 2 days, we are getting 15.5ish, which of course sucks bad. I know they recently had a new battery installed, which means of course it is possible the ISC was never reset, but I have an impossible time believing that reset is going to get me to 23ish (what I was hoping for), that's asking an awful lot.


It has 91K, has been faithfully serviced by Lexus every 5K, impeccable inside and out. This is as nice of one you will find anywhere and we bought it from the Lexus dealer no less, though it wasn't a CPO due to a small repair on left side that required some paint work on both doors.


If I had known about the MPG, I would have said "Look into that and if you can make it better I'll take it". Because as it stands right now, there is no reason to own this hybrid if it gets worse mileage than a gasser. Sure hope that reset works.

Well I was wrong, the ISC reset did more than I could have hoped for. Also, we educated ourselves on how to get the most from this car in terms of how to drive a hybrid and we are very happy with the end result. More we drive it, the more we love it. Currently getting 30mpg, but I suspect it will settle in around 28(ish) seems far fetched to think we'll continue to get 30 but if it happens, great. Coming off an AWD Sienna that got 16-17 in town, this seems pretty awesome. If you're in the market for an SUV, I'd highly recommend taking a look at one of these, if you can find one. Where I live they are pretty rare and sell pretty quick.

I’m at 170k on my 06 400h, and I get a consistent 23.5mpg. I have a very heavy lead foot, and so does my wife (the primary driver). we like to get off stop lights quickly, and we both like to cruise at 70-75mph on the highway. We’re about as hybrid-unfriendly as it comes, really.

For the past 2,000 miles I'm averaging 26.5 mpg and that is without using the a/c or heat. The climate we are in has been perfect for just rolling the windows down and not having to run anything. 2008 with 75,000 miles.

Im only getting 23mpg on premium. You also have to consider that I do very little maintenance on my car besides oil change. I haven't change out cooling liquid or transmission fluid yet. In short, I don't take care of my car.

My guess is that you can get 30mpg MAX if you know how the hybrid system works. Regenerative braking, coasting, etc. 30mpg is pretty good considering the rx400h is basically a V8.

All in all the rx400h will always be a better buy than the rx350. Hybrids will always be a better buy.
