Default Highway Mileage on this Car is Unbelievable!!

Just turned 385 miles on my brand new car and got back from a 100 mile trip averaging 80 mph and the car displayed an avg. of 32 mpg on the DIC. Pretty unbelievable for a car of this size and weight. In a Prius I was only averaging 39 mpg at this speed on the highway so only 7 less than the Prius. Not too bad.

Yeah, I was amazed too. I drove back from LA and averaged 31.5 mpg.

Keep in mind that the Prius doesn't get it's best MPG on the highway. It wasn't designed to be a highway car.

32 MPG is good tho. I'm getting 27.5-28 in mixed city/highway running 87.

Yeah, I know all about the Prius. I was going to buy one before prices skyrocketed, but now it is not worth it. I rented one for over 3 weeks and was averging 39 in town and the same on the highway. Great car, but definately not a luxury car.

The ES has to be one of the best if not the best in class for highway gas mileage and it has tons of power to boot. Definately feel good about this purchase.

I agree with you 100%. A huge win for the ES350.

Even with 29K miles on my ticker, running 87, I still am getting low 30's on the highway.

That's great gas mileage, I'm jealous. I get 27mpg max on the highway.

On a recent trip to Cleveland from Wilkes Barre, PA, our ES350 with returned almost 35 mpg, premium gas, 70 mph average speed. Calculated by filling up to the absolute limit, drove and filled up again to the limit upon our arrival in Cleveland. To the limit means not being able to get one extra drop into the tank. I was amazed.

I once got 38 mpg heading back from Reno (while averaging about 70 mph for most of the trip)...another time on an approx. 80-mile trip I got 54 mpg.

Yeah, but what did you get going to Reno? I-80 is so downhill most of the way from Reno to Sacramento.

I must admit I am impressed. I just did an 850 mile run (and turned 5000 miles) and got 31 mpg at 80 mph. When i check the overall milage including city driving it turned out to be 28mpg. I am impressed and this is my 1st Japanese car. I may never go back to Jaguar again but we'll need to see what the long term results will be. It is kind of depressing not working on my car other then an oil change. It took me a few tries to cancel the "oil maint" read out but finally got it. I'll be setting up my 5K appointment with Lexus next week. This should be my last visit with them (unless a warranty issues comes up) until I sell/trade in the car. Nice ride.

Well I think your mileage went up on the way out of Reno because you had less cash. This let's your vehicle roll easier and your gas foot rest easy. Haha.

LOL--nice attempt at humor...but I should mention that I don't gamble--at least not the kind of legalized gambling typically found in casinos.

As a new owner of a 2008 ES350 premium with nav package, I am more than satisfied than I originally thought I would be. I made my final purchase decision based on positive comments by the members of this forum. I am amazed at the terrific gas mileage I'm getting with this beauty. On a highway trip from Vancouver to Calgary, I averaged 6.7 liters per 100 kms (36.11 miles per US gallon). Pretty good, eh!!!
