DIY Installation of Beltronics STi-R Plus (w/ pictures)
Hi, I wanted to share my installation of a Beltronics STi-R Plus on my 2010 GX 460 and hope it can help someone in the future.
Here are the two things I will be working with. The Beltronics STiR-Plus radar receiver and my Lexus GX 460.
Interface with all connections made.
This is the interface mounted with 3M tape to the side of the fuse box on the driver's side.
Interface mounted with all connections. I taped into the 12 volt power outlet and used the bolt that holds the fuse box in place for ground.
Disassembled rear view mirror. I am going to tape the display module right below the compass display and route the cable out the back above the factory connector.
This is the display module disassembled as well ready to be taped to the rear view mirror logic board with 3M tape.
Display shinning through the rear view mirror. During the daytime I need to run it at maximum brightness but at night I normally use the auto-brightness feature. For maximum stealth I can change to dark mode and it turns off.
The side console panel removed to route the control module cable to the interface.
Control module taped to the underside of the radio within easy reach, for me anyways. I can easily hide it by sliding down the radio buttons cover.
The black box is the modified speaker housing. I decided to remove the speaker and splice a speaker wire extension because to me it sounds weird coming from my feet. You can also see the built-in grommet the radar receiver came with. I poked through an unused nipple in the factory grommet.
The radar receiver extension cable excess is tucked in the gray plastic wire loom. All this is underneath the plastic brake fluid reservoir cover. The left side of it is the firewall (for reference).
Behind the black metal support bracket for the brake fluid reservoir cover is were the radar receiver and its extension connect to each other. The black plastic wire loom goes to the front of the car.
I ran the cable in the plastic wire loom between the fender and the battery.
Then behind the headlight through a rubber cover/flap in front of the radiator support frame.
This is a top, from the driver's side view the radar receiver cable follows.
I mounted the radar receiver onto its bracket and on top the metal bumper with 3M tape.

The magnetic GPS module is mounted to the A-Pillar (behind the white connector).
I removed the overhead console to mount the extended speaker as I didn't like the sound coming from around my feet.
I used 3M tape once again to mount the speaker to the roof panel.

Thanks for the great write up.
This is something that has been in the back of my mind and it hit me the other day when I found myself running 90+ MPH.
I watched a few videos and read some reviews on this product.
Pardon my ignorance but this device has an optional laser jammer, I don't see that you installed that?
It also does not jam radar but maybe that is not an option?
Not sure what the GPS informs you of and did not see it in my brief research.

I am glad you find my post helpful. Let me answer your questions to the best of my ability.
You are correct regarding the optional laser receiver/shifter, they are optional. The basic kit contains a radar receiver for X, K, Ka and on the Beltronics model, as opposed to the Escort Passport 9500ci, the same radar receiver housing receives laser but it doesn't shift/jam it. Behind the bumper cover the radar receiver for laser is useless as it needs a clear line of sight. I plan to install laser receiver/shifter in the near future. Look at the AntiLaser, Blinder and Laser Interceptor brands as they make highly reviewed systems. Escort makes an old ZR4 that directly connects to either the Escort or Beltronics interface and integrates with the system perfectly but it's not as good. I will choose the Laser ShifterPro upgrade for mine which apparently is made by Laser Interceptor and integrates perfectly with the Escort and Beltronics models.
I believe that radar jamming is illegal but it doesn't matter with certain systems such as the Beltronics STi-R Plus and sister product the Passport 9500ci as they are built to be undetectable by radar detector detectors used by police. They can also be update for future threats.
If you have ever used a radar detector and it constantly goes off when you drive by the same location the GPS feature will change your life. The GPS feature can show you your speed as you drive, locks out false signals after the 3rd time you drive by them, you can mark your own locations and it shows you where red light cameras are located. It makes the unit very quiet so when it does go off you can pretty much bet it's a real threat.

The radar receiver does sit behind the bumper and it is not out in the open. I had it mounted at one point between the grille slats but I didn't notice any obvious difference between the 2 locations. I will tell you that I have picked up signals from at least 2 miles away and at intersections from the side.
What I am missing is the LASER detection as that will need line-of-sight for it to work. LASER is not too big around my area and normally you can see them on the side of the road anyways.

There are several popular brands available. AntiLaser, Blinder and Laser Interceptor are all stand-alone systems. The Escort Shifter Pro is the only that I know of that actually integrates with the Escort and Beltronics so you don't need a separate display, speaker or control module.

Thanks for the tips! I basically cloned your installation, I installed my older Escort 9500ci, and ALP, my mirror has the homelink in it, so I had to mount the display on the bottom left instead.
