BMW/Merc owner here impressed w/ the GX...
I drive a 97 528i and a 98 SLK230. My mom has a 99 ML320 that I have driven on occasion.
This past weekend I had an opportunity to drive a GX470 for about 80 miles. I've got to say it was a great ride. Very smooth and comfortable. Like night and day from the ML320 which was a bad buy looking back on it. It sort of felt like the 528 which is saying something because it's stock riding on 15's so the ride is very smooth.
The level of options and little gadgets can't be compared. I won't even begin to compare it to my SLK...apple and oranges to the Nth degree.
I also had a chance to ride in a new IS300 and that was also a great ride. The car felt solid and the inside wasn't too bad. My next car will definately be a Lexus if I can afford one.
The only complaints I have is that the seat is too short, the armrests are a bit small, and I also would prefer a lifting rear. Other than that it's amazing. The navi system is very precise. I def. will get that option no matter what car I buy. It looks better in person than in pictures.
