Default GX470 - Pick up Monday - Mild Change ?s

Picking up this beauty on Tuesday. 2007, 149k miles, KDSS, 1-owner GX470. Had to look hard to find her. Autocheck is very nice. The local dealer has 6 pages of service records including new rear airbags at 130k miles. They told owner that they didn't seem to be leaking, but owner chose to replace anyhow. This thing has been maintained supremely.

Here are first phase plans...

Remove running boards
Replace tires with 265/70/17
Possibly replace or powder coat the OEM wheels (thinking gunmetal)
Possibly take off the whale tail, but not sold on it yet
Start looking for roof rack

Here are my questions...

Since the airbags are new, I will likely want to just give it a slight lift. What is the best, inexpensive and simplest option for lifting it less than 2"?

Are there any tricks to removing the running boards? Seems easy.

Any thoughts on best tires in that size? I want them to look aggressive, but ride well. I have had great experiences with Coopers.

Any opinions on inexpensive, but functional, roof rack?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Looks good...I've got the same truck but its a 2006. I've got the OME 2" lift on the front and tricked the rear airbags. Mine are not leaking so I decided to got this route (with OME shocks in the back too) for now. I've also got an ARB bull bar up front on mine.

Running boards....I think there is a thread on removing them on Ih8mud.

Tires...I run the cooper discovery AT3 (18 inch though) and I've been happy with them. Ride smooth on the road and decent off road.

Welcome to the party. It looks like you got a great specimen there. Browse around a bit and you'll find a lot of information here to answer your questions. Also, check out the 120 section over at ih8mud.com. In the end, only you can decide what is best for you and all of your questions have been covered many times.

For me, I went with OME springs and Bilstein 5100 shocks with 265/70 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs and Metaltech/OPOR rock sliders in lieu of the running boards. The running boards are super easy to take off (again search the forum for this).

Basically, you have a very good SUV that does great for grocery/soccer practice as well as being a tested off-road platform in it's Australian form. The US aftermarket is only starting to get on board with this so stay tuned to the forums and watch the product options grow.

Got the improvements started with black wheels and Hankook 265/70/17s. Really makes a difference.
