Maint Req'd Light
So just trying to find out if this is normal. This is my wife's car so I don't drive it every day. I started it up to pull out of the garage and noticed the maint Req'd light blinking, it blinked about five times and turned off. Does it mean anything? if so, what? Just rolled over 100K. We bought it in late january and all the PM was done just wondering if they reset the oil reminder or what. Any help would be help. Thanks

The maintenance reminder light will go on at every 5000 mile oil change (or other service) interval. When you get close to the 5000 miles, it will blink for a few seconds, as you described, and, eventually, it will stay on continuously until a reset is done.
When maintenance is done, you can reset the reminder. Push the trip odometer button to display Trip A. Shut off the ignition. Then, while pressing and holding the trip odometer reset button, turn the ignition to the Acc position. The trip odometer should keep flashing until all dashes appear. At that point, the maintenance reminder is reset. Instructions for doing this that are probably clearer than my explanation can be found in the vehicle manual.

That is correct. The vehicle's computer is programmed to turn on the "maintenance required" light when an oil change (or other routine maintenance) is called for consistent with the maintenance schedule that is in your vehicle's manual. If there were some sort of system malfunction, the "check engine" or other warning lights would be turned on.

I have a 05 GX470. My manual says set the odometer to the total miles odo reading. Not the trip odo. Then turn off key. Then hold down odo/trip button again and turn key to on. Keep holding button down till mtce rqd light goes out. It goes through a cycle of flashing before it goes out. Once it is out, you release the button and start the car. You will be reset. Procedure worked fine for me.
