How to tell if Factory Tow Package is installed
My wife has a 2009 GX470 that I "think" has the factory tow package. It has the 2" receiver on a tube frame and 7 wire round wire harness connector that is in a plate bolted to the tube frame. The receiver has a Lexus logo rubber cap.
I understand the maximum towing capacity is 6500 #'s when “properly equipped”.
How can I tell if the factory tow package is installed - this may include a larger alternator, transmission cooler and larger radiator plus wiring harness and receiver.
We currently have an 18' bow rider on a single axle aluminum trailer that she tows from time to time. I drive our Ford F350 crew cab long bed diesel pulling our tow hauler. Maximum weight she pulls is under 3000 #'s.
We are looking at moving up to a bigger boat but I want to stay within something she can pull SAFELY with the GX470. Some we are looking at are on tandem axle trailers and get close to 5000 #’s.
I understand this “should be fine” but am looking for some buffer to make sure.
We won’t be using the Lexus to launch the boat – that’s what the truck is for. Just using it to get the boat to the campground and back.
Thanks in advance for any help !!

It sounds like you have the tow package. When I lift the hood on my '09 there is a cooler on the vehicle L side ( my R as I face the vehicle) in front of the radiator that I think is transmission cooler. I used to tow a 4-5 K lb boat before I retired and moved to a smaller boat. The GX did fine and did well at launch and pulling the boat out of the water and up a steep gravel hill afterwards. I think the GX could do anything you need with a 5 k lb boat. The GX has a relatively short wheel base and the manual calls for an anti sway hitch with a larger boat. I never had any special hitch and never had a problem. I think the GX is a great tow vehicle
