What brand tires do YOU have?
I was at my dealership the other day, and noticed that most GX470s now come in with Michelins. Back in the day, many of us didn't get Michelins (Well I did!) and most of us here got Duelers and Grandtreks.
I had the tires on my GX rotated and balanced the other day at America's Tire Co, and asked them about the price of new ones (although I'm not due for new ones yet) . Here's what they told me (very interesting)
Set of 4 tires
Dunlop Grandtreks $550-$600
Bridgestone Duelers $600-$650
Michelin Cross Terrains $950
So i was just curious what tires do the new GX470 owners have, and for those that have high mileage, did u replace your tires with original ones or different brands??

Michelins... by request
I asked for them at the time of the sale, so they swapped with another truck in the lot. Best decision I ever made!
As a side note, $950 is a ripoff! Tirerack has them at $169 per tire. Even with shipping and installation, you should still be over $100 BELOW that figure you were quoted. Just a heads up for when the time comes...

Tire Rack shipped to me $750. Then local installers with Tire Stem, Tire Balance and Disposal fee is between 25 and 35 PER tire. So net from TR is $850+ and then add sales tax.
NTB is $183 per tire, but installation is $16.50 per tire (balance and tire stem), then still $4 for each tire Disposal fee. That come to about $820 and then add sales tax.
So if your dealer has a nice waiting room (like mine) and gives you a loaner car (like mine) and if the $950 included everything (disposal fee, balance, tire stem, AND sales tax) or you can get him down $50 bucks, then it's not looking to bad.
However, what I've done before, is find a NTB manager willing to met TR prices (and then no shipping cost!). Worked out the best deal for me.

My 05 and now my 06 GX came with Michelins. On the GX, I wouldn't accept the vehicle if it had the much cheaper and problematic Dunlops and Bridgestones. Michelin tires are always at the high end for prices for all of their tires.

wow. looks like most of the new GX owners got Michelins. boy what a rip off if i didn't get Michelins on mine. I think (in my city) I was the first to have Michelins. the rest of that first batch had (mostly) Dunlops and Bridgestones. I was just really shocked at the big price difference the store told me when i asked them the prices for all 3 original brands.
I'm still running on a lot of threadware at 43k. not even half way yet.

If you have a Sam's Club nearby, you can order the Michelins online for that club (will take about 3 days to arrive at the Club). Cost per tire is about $185 plus balancing and mounting which is pretty reasonable from what I remember. You don't pay until you pick them up at the Club. There are open until 8 which is convenient for those of us that work during the day.
