"Crunching" sound from moonroof
Has anyone experienced a crunching-like sound from the moonroof when it slides back? Our `04 GX started having this problem at 9,700 miles on the odometer. I had the dealer check-out the problem during the 10K service and they "lubricated" the moonroof mechanisms. Afterwards the moonroof operated very smoothly, but there was still the crunching sound. Took the GX into the dealer again; this time, the dealer said that they reset the moonroof and lubricated everything. Took the GX back this morning because the problem persists. Any thoughts about what is causing this to happen? Anyone have this happen to their GX?

I had grinding and popping noises with my sunroof a couple months ago. I also had a rattle in the sunroof screen (non-glass part that you slide back) when it was open. They ordered some parts and replaced the cables. The invoice also mentioned lubricating the cables and some other parts. Has worked fine since they fixed it 2-months ago. Except now there are grease smudges on the roof liner that they will be cleaning the next time I can get in there.

Udate to Crunching
The dealership telephoned this afternoon to say that they couldn't ascertain what was causing the sound (they did acknow;edge that there indeed was a crunching sound), so they're going to replace tge entire moonroof assembly. My wife says the the RX330 loaner that the dealer gave her was "filthy", but its hard to argue with a dealership that will do whatever they have to do to make something right.

I do have some squeaking on mine but all it needs is some lube I think.

Update
Well the GX has been at the daeler for a week and it looks like it will be another week before we get it back. The problem is that one of the parts - a cable - is out-of-stock in the U.S. According to the technician the RXs have been having moonroof problems and this occurrence has depleted the supply of parts. The good news is that we've had 2 RX330s to drive for which we've not had to pay for gas - a really good thing given that the gasoline prices around here are close to $3/gallon.

We've replaced two sunroof housing/cables recently. Its a tough part to come by, and is not an easy job to complete the first time around.
hopefuly it doesnt become as common as RX330 sunroof cable replacement for grinding noise
