30 years ago a luxury vehicle was about mechanical, looks, paint, seats. These days technology is a big factor imo.

Our largest dealer in SoCal - Longo Lexus-had a salesperson who said it was special order (takes 3 months) and it was "50/50" whether the order would be accepted by Lexus. The supposed reasoning was that the factory in Japan would have to "stop the [production] line" to make this custom car.
then he proceeded to try to get me to lease an LX so I can have a new car today!

see my signature, been waiting now for 2+ months. If you want it, lexus will make it. I do think they have to stop assembly line for it. I think they probably wait for a bunch of orders to be made at once with driver support. Would fit with their JIT manufacturing process. Also, they are behind on supply as demand is up for the gx, so they are catching up. This should be a standard feature on gx and may be in future. Heck, ive seen many other cars nowadays with this as pretty much a standard feature, so it will be a standard feature on all cars in near future. The gxs w/o this feature may be a tough sell when they get resold.
