2007 GX, 140K miles, Timing belt?
Quick question for you experts.
Found an 07 GX. Original owner. Full dealer serviced (every 5k miles) at Lexus of Cerritos. They even replaced headlights and remote battery at the dealership.
Went through 11 pages of records on Lexus Drivers.
HOWEVER, there is no mention of timing belt/water pump repair.
Should I assume it wasn't done?
Mileage is 140,000.
Thank you

I'd be a little nervous if it had not be done. I have talked to some people who have pushed the mileage, even as high as 175K, but it is a rubber belt that can fail. I would think it is a matter of both miles and years combined with conditions. If you are in northern states with major differences in temp I'd think the belt would be under some pretty extreme conditions and be more prone to letting go and I'd probably have it changed. I know this is an expensive maint. item but the cost of a failure is even higher - roll the dice, do you feel lucky ?

the problem is more the waterpump AND the belt, if the waterpump fails the belt usually goes too and the waterpump lasts alot less than a belt. you are on borrowed time past 120k on a belt/waterpump. often the belt comes out looking like new, but the waterpump can start to leak at that mileage, sort of random how long they last but having a clean cooling system with the right fluids can help with that.
On a 2007 vvti if you break the belt you will likely get engine damage. its not worth skipping go to toyota and they usually have a v8 belt special, lexus will be more expensive. I just drive my lexus right into the toyota service bay and they dont even say anything about it they are used to it.

usually around $700 on special and just under $1k when not in specials.
That is with waterpump (WP). No matter what any "tech" tells you, always replace the WP with the TB even if it appears fine cause you want it to be another 90-140k before you go back in there to do the job again, not replace the motor if it fails at 180-200k, or almost as bad is pay all the labor again when it starts leaking (they all do sooner or later).

Unless the timing belt is a brand other than OEM (indicating it's not original), with no service records I'd treat it as original, and look to have the T-belt/waterpump replaced ASAP. Not worth the risk of them failing and causing engine damage. Do a coolant flush while you're at it.

three thoughts-
1. if you see that they performed all service records up to that point there's a good chance it was done and just not reported as long as same owner. lexus owners tend to do the required repairs. a lot of time people don't take it to dealership to save a few hundred dollars and the shop doesn't report nationally.
2. i just purchased a 2006 that said on carfax that a service was done at 93k but it didn't say what it was and i considered doing the timing belt just in case. i was at mechanic friends house and when we opened the hood there was a sticker on the grey engine cover that said teh timing belt and water pump had been replaced. try checking in the engine as my friend said any reputable mechanic will put some kind of note or sticker somewhere letting you know it has been changed. just saved me $1000.
3. you can possibly go to a dealership with the VIn number and see if they can find any addititional info on the vehicle that carfax may have missed.
good lcuk
