Part number for ignition switch cylinder lock??
I've been reading all the recent posts about ignition cylinders getting stuck on our trucks and now i am noticing that my '05 GX also has this issue from time to time.
This morning for example, i could not move the key inside the ignition. The steering wheel was NOT locked. Key was not moving in any direction. Truck has been sitting on driveway for 3 days.
I tried 3-4 times and on the 5th time, it worked just fine. Tried multiple times after that - no issue, like it was never stuck.
I put some lubricant on the key and inserted it in and out multiple times. Hopefully, all the internal parts will get some lubrication to extend their life.
I am pretty determined to address this problem before my ignition cylinder gets completely stuck in the middle of the winter, when i am far from home. I need to gather as much DIY information as possible.
First, very important question is.... if i want to buy a NEW ignition lock cylinder - what is the correct part number?
My guess is that this will be Lexus only part, since Toyota SUVs seem to have different looking keys. Still, i want to find the cheapest possible source for the part. Then i need to find the right locksmith.
Thanks!
Dan

I just talked to a couple of local locksmith guys... and they gave me two options to address this:
1. Repair the existing ignition cylinder - $145.
2. I buy the new cylinder from Lexus, they install/program it - $175
I am curious... what would the "repair" exactly include and if this is a reliable long term solution, compared to buying a new cylinder from Lexus. Is this common ignition issue even repairable on our cars? Any ideas?
