I know this is a super late reply but here is the video that I never got a chance to post up for you guys.
I had a muffler shop do everything for me (just $100 for the entire install).
The K&N intake was very easy though.

Well it seems they made some changes to the sensors on the 06 cause mine is different than the one you showed. I can't install this intake. Sucks.
Also some of the tubes did not fit. Thickness was off. Since it seems I must return this I wonder if the later V8 4.7 4Runner fits or I should just give up lol.

The smell went away, I think it was just the smell from the new rubber hoses heating up but it went away the next morning.
I just installed the Gibson exhaust system for my ride, since people on the 4Runner forums say it's not as loud as the Magnaflow: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CCDN4Q
The car sounds quite beastly now with the K&N & Gibson exhaust combined together with my iron foot, I will post up a video very soon. =)

That's good info thanks! However it does not help if I can't get the sensor in the hole or the screws are wider apart than the sensor as the photo shows.

Just an update for all you silent folks, some of you are so helpful lol......
I made contact with some one that works at K&N. They are forwarding my info to the R&D department. Might have an updated 06+ version of this made and my car used at the prototype. With my luck I hope so!
I was also told that for us we should use this page at K&N to request an intake! I am sure if we get enough requests they will make them for sure.
