ASL does it have any effect?

I can't hear any difference with it on or off but when on, I notice that there are little colored bars under the ASL box that light up as you drive. The faster you go, the more bars that get illuminated. So I guess its doing something. Could just be for show.

Do y'all mean when driving at highway speeds (i.e. noisy) you don't notice how much volume you lose when you turn ASL off? I certainly do.
However, you won't (and shouldn't) notice it if you are sitting still and quiet.

Bars show the setting for minimum sound level at rest. Example: You set the ASL bars using the volume control to 3 bars, the sound level will stay there until ambiant sound creeps into the cockpit then the radio will automatically raise the volume from your set minimum until the ambiant sound it compensated.
But in my GX it doesn't change the sound any. But in my GS if I push it on, I do have a increase in bass.

On a long drive to the beach, my wife laid her seat way back and tried to nap. I was driving on county back roads and running about 75 mph. Every 15 - 20 miles was a small town were the speed limit dropped to 25 mph. A minute to go thru town and then rapidly back to 75 mph. After an hour's nap my wife sat back up. I asked her if she fell asleep and her reply was she couldn't because I kept turning the radio volume up and down. I hadn't touched the ML the entire time so I conclude the ASL is doing a perfect job. If you're riding in the GX you'll never notice the ASL working unless you place your ear near a speaker. And that's how it should work.
