I have this same problem...kind of.. I have a Samsung Android phone...I just got this car handed down to me from the wife,so...
Every time I get in and turn the car on,it connects to the phone right away for blue tooth calls....but... so far EVERYTIME it only connects for calls only.
I have to go to my bluetooth setting on my phone, turn it off and then back on until it scans and connects to "Car Multimedia"
it pairs up right away, but, I think it should stay paired up with the phone for BOTH calls and music...can't understand why I need to re-pair it every time for music? Is this what everyone else has to do?

Simple stuff to check, get in the habit of turning your phone completely off, cold dark dead, once a week or so.
30 seconds will suffice, doesn't have to be daily or overnight, just cycle it periodically.
Your symptom might be created by having a second phone that is paired such as your brides New phone paired to
the car also. When you go out and fire up the car it reaches out and pairs...to her phone. A marriage saving technique
is to turn off the Bluetooth of her phone briefly when you start the car.
When you initially paired the Android phone you would have seen a couple of dialog boxes open and ask permission
to transfer contacts and allow for auto pairing. If you didn't see those or didn't answer yes/OK/allow then delete the
phone and start over fully repairing it. Be sure to delete both the car from the phone screen AND the phone from the car screen.

Found the problem....I hope...seems to be doing fine ...for now....turned the car of/on several times to check.
I was able to find the screen in audio that asks.... which portable device do you wish to connect?
There are 2 choices of course...My Brides.. and my phone...My phone was already highlighted as the one to connect,but....
something that I didn't know existed was the two choices below that ...
Top says "Connect via the cars audio system"...or something like that.
Bottom says "Connect via Portable player selected"....So that's why...it wanted the portable player to connect every time instead of the cars system connecting to it automatically ....As soon as I highlighted the "Connect Via the Cars system" ...it started playing music without me needing to do anything else.

We have iPhone 7 plus and iPhone 8, and they connect automatically every time.
But I leave the bluetooth turned off 99% of the time to conserve battery
and only turn it on when needed.
My 2006 GS300 only does bluetooth phone calls, and does not do audio streaming.

I would do a delete and pair again from the vehicle. If you reset your phone or if there was an update to the phone, the vehicle may have issues trying to connect to the phone.

If you ever see in the Bluetooth screen of your device the name "Car Audio System" instead of the
cars default "Multimedia System" (older Lexi) or "Lexus GS" (newer Lexi) you should completely
repair the device.
