2008 GS350. Trunk won't Open with Key/Button
Hi guys,
Searched and found lots of threads regarding this issue. I have a 2008 GS350 AWD. One day, the trunk stopped working. The trunk button next to the drivers seat doesn't work nor does the button on the key fob work. I already pressed the valet button in the glove box, so I know its not that. Everytime I try to open the trunk with the key fob, it'll beep but the trunk won't open. The ONLY way to get it open is to many insert the key thats hidden in the fob.
I read a couple of threads regarding this problem. Some say they went to lexus and was charged 1600 while others say they fixed it themselves.
One person said "They unplugged the wiring harness from the ECU (Electronic Control Unit? I guess). Once the harness was plugged back in the ECU reset and trunk works fine now. However they tell me it could happen again."
Where exactly is the wiring harness/ecu? Does anybody have a diagram that I could follow?
Another person wrote "Took it to Lexus and they told me it would cost over $1600 to fix. Found your post, opened the trunk to disconnect the cable to the ECU. It would require some dissasembly. Leaving the trunk open, I disconnected the main battery ground and waited 5 minutes and reconnected the ground. This also reset the ECU. I closed the trunk and now everything works fine again."
Where is the "main battery ground"? Is he referring to the same battery that you hook up jumper cables to? (stupid question i know) if so, how do I disconnect the main battery?
HELP!!!!! Trunk not working is very inconvenient. Mostly at night time.

problem with trunk
I, i'll do my best in english. I have a gs 350 2008 and I have the same problem. After have been experience the problem for few week, I forgot my light open and my batterie was empty. Though, I had to boost my car. I got surprise when I saw my trunk open as a new one !! Conclusion, it is for sure linked to the batterie and probabely computing thing or somethinf whatever, dont pay money for this kind of problem that could be repair by accident. !!
however, my trunk open only for few month and the problem came back. so I gonna to try to disconnect my batterie. according to my last experience, I think I should work...

Trunk won't open for 2007 GS350
I had this issue.
I was cleaning the car and after I was done, the trunk refused to open unless with the metal key.
I later discovered that it was the valet botton that I mistakenly pressed. This deactivated the trunk.
I hear it's a safety thing when or if u have valuable in the trunk and u are releasing d car to someone else

About 1 month ago the trunk failed to close when pushed down so the auto closer engages on my RX450H 2013. Checked the Valet switch and that was ok. The boot light showed up on the cluster display. I took the negative terminal off the battery for about 30 seconds and that reset everything. But I have to set up a few things after that was done including the programmable seats. The trunk worked again. Last week the trunk had the same problem. I can get in with the key but not the fob or internal button on the driver side. Obviously not the fuse is not a problem because everything was ok until the second time. Valet switch is ok. The trunk light is still displayed all the time. Actually if the trunk is open with the key I have to close it like a normal trunk. The auto closing doesn't work.
