Default Trunk release replacement/repair

My trunk release has never worked since getting the car - I have to use a key to open. I tried the button in the glove box - when pushing the button it beeps indicating it works, but the mechanism never makes any noise or movement. Also pushing up on the pad above the license plate doesnt do anything. What can I test to see if needs replaced or if it can be fixed.
Thanks for any assistance.

I think you have the valet button on, in the glove compartment check to see if the button is pushed in.

the button to open the trunk is not in the glovebox. like mentioned above, you may have the valet option turned on

The buttin in glove box works - if its depressed and I push the trunk release on my keyfob I hear a beep indicating it should be open - but it never unlocks or pops it open. If I push the button in the glove box again then it wont beep. So I understand the button in the glovebox, but thats not it, unfortunately.

your release motor might have gone out. Have you taken the bottom half of the trunk apart and see of that motor is functioning or not?

There's a TSB, if you have access to someone who can give you TSB information, it SHOULD show you how to remove the assembly and replace it.

EDIT: Our moderator TWong350 can pull up these TSBs, PM him with a request on it and he may be able to pull up the information on it (part # and all).

I hope it is not the problem described in this TSIB. The junction block costs ~$600. Not an easy DIY, either.

I bought my Gs about a month ago & my trunk doesn't work either. Checked the valet button in the glovebox & that's off so that isn't it. Looks like we have the exact same issue.

Holy crap on the TSB, that's a big job, for something small like a motor in the trunk not working.

The warranty labor calls for 1.2 hrs. It will be a little more if it's out of consumer pocket.
Step 3 of the repair procedure already eats up all that time.
One of TSBs dealership doesn't want to take on???

Well I think I found a fix for the trunk motor not working. Let it sit outside in -20 - -40degree weather with 11-14" of snow! Was stuck in my driveway during the nasty storm we had here in IN and not that its all clear, my trunk motor magically started working! I can actually hear it engage etc when I push the button on the trunk which I never heard before. So strange!
