Parking sensor question
Does anyone know whether the painted part of the parking sensor that faces outward on the bumper is its own part or is it part of the parking sensor itself? I was driving on the highway and a rock hit smack dab in the middle of one of my sensors, leaving a nice chunk missing from it. The sensor still works fine, but I'd like to replace the painted outer part of it if it's a separate part. Thanks.

Yes, it is the front sensor just to passenger side of the license plate.
Is the piece just the flat cover or does it come with the raised border that goes around the cover? Also, how hard is it to replace that piece? Do you have to remove the entire bumper in order to get at it or can you reach up from underneath the bumper?

Okay, so I emailed Sewell and they sent me a link to the exploded diagram. I think I know which part I need, but can someone confirm that I'm reading this correctly? I need to replace the part of the front parking sensor that faces outward. What do you guys think? Also, assuming I'm looking at the right piece, is that easy to replace? It almost looks like you wouldn't have to take the bumper off to replace it. Thanks.

I need to replace the part of the front parking sensor that faces outward. What do you guys think? Also, assuming I'm looking at the right piece, is that easy to replace? It almost looks like you wouldn't have to take the bumper off to replace it. Thanks.

Yes you need to take bumper off in order to replace the sensor,
its very easy once you take off the bumper!!

You need 89341A (Sensor)
and you can re-used 89348 which is the parts hold between sensor and bumper.
Yes you need to take bumper off in order to replace the sensor,
its very easy once you take off the bumper!!

When you order you sould let them know what color you need,
(factory painted sensor)

Thanks you SO MUCH for your help. I've done so many searches and haven't been able to find any information.
If you look at the exploded diagram, it looks like the parking sensor is two pieces that snap together -- the outer painted piece (89348) and the inner piece (89341A). Am I totally misreading the diagram? In the picture that you posted of the painted sensor, does the painted piece come apart from the guts of the sensor behind it? The reason I ask is because the painted piece (89348) is only $5 and the other piece (89341a) is around $250. Here is a link to the pieces and their prices from Sewell's web site. Thanks so much for your help.

Okay, I think I see what's going on now. 89341a fits inside of 89348. Both pieces are painted. 89348 is the holder that 89341a slides into. So, when looking at the sensor from the front of the car, the painted outer rim is the outer part of 89348 and the painted center part of the sensor is 89341a which fits inside of 89348.

Crap, that's what I was afraid of. So I'll have to pony up $237 for the entire sensor if I want to replace the painted outer part. Here's the thing. The sensor still works just fine, but it looks like crap. Whatever hit it took a nice chunk out of it.
How hard was it to remove the bumper? I would never try that myself, but I wonder if the dealer could charge me an hour's worth of time to do it for me. That would be worth the $125 hourly rate for me. Then again, after buying the part and paying the labor, I'd be looking at roughly $400 to get rid of a stone chip. Not sure it's worth it, especially since the sensor is still working.
I've heard of people accessing the sensors behind the bumper by reaching up from underneath the car? Is that a possibility?

I had my sensor re-painted (thin) by local body shop after few years road rush.
they came out nice and works excellent, not sure if you want to do the same thing to save some $$?
Also the local body shop can install the sensor for you, I believe they have better rate than dealer.
I really don't think you can reach the sensor from underneath the car, not enough space....
PS: I am not type of DIY person, but still able to remove and put back the front bumper no problem, just follow the steps in this PDF file....
