Default how much should I offer to buy a GS or ES ?

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/lexu...on=1&x=73&y=13

I live in the Bay Area of CA.

The above link from Edmunds.com shows the "invoice" price that a Lexus dealer is supposedly paying for the 2008 ES 350.

I am hearing that the dealer actually pays a lot less than this price of $29,987 for the base price. This number is important to me because I will use it to negotiate my offer to buy the car.

Some people tell me I should offer $500 above this invoice price. But another person tells me that because the Lexus dealer actually pays a lot lower than this price of $29,987, I should be offering a few thousand dollars BELOW this invoice price.

Does anyone know about how much does the Lexus dealer (in general) actually pay BELOW this "invoice" price? Thanks.

Dealerships will not sell you a car thousands below invoice. Remember, the dealership has to make money too. A reasonable amount is within $500 invoice. If you ask them for way below invoice, they'll just laugh at you and turn their back on you. And that is with any dealership.

I would look at the pricing at Carsdirect.com as it is alot more real-world realistic than what you see on edmund's pricing.

Go to edmunds, kbb and check out the prices with your options and contact dealers via internet. The internet sales are easier to deal with but dont expect miracles. Dealers need to make money too, be reasonable and shop smart. Just do a lot of research and see what others have been paying.

forget about offering thousands below invoice. you're wasting your time.
pick 2-3 dealerships, and bid them against one another.
there's one dealership owned by penske up there.

you can get the car at invoice price easily toward the end of this month when they need to meet their monthly sales quota. They still make good money selling a few at invoice. invoice is about 12% off sticker.

you won't find a base price ES in california, because leather is not standard. It's part of the premium package.
There will be thousands of dollars in options added.

I agree. If anything go towards the end of the month and an hour before closing time.
