Default Anybody planning to change front wheel break pads? (TSB BR002-06)

Based on this latest GS TSB (BR002-06
http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Lexus/116...2R-06/206.html), Lexus confirmed that high-friction front brake pads will cause a large volume of break dust on the wheels. I noticed that from day one of my car. So, they are suggesting an alternative brake pad which should generate less break dust. One thing I question is their reference to "breaking performance and feeling may be altered and could be reduced under certain driving conditions"?!? I'm trying to read between the lines here, does it mean we will get less dust but altimately decrease performance and reliability of the brakes? I wouldn't think Lexus ever will go for this, but what the hell is this reference to "reduction"?

Thanks for the TSB. Yes, I plan on calling my local dealer to have them changed out, after cleaning the wheels, approx 3 days later the wheels are almost black and looks like I have not cleaned them in months!!

very interesting Twist.
I might just want the dust if I have to choose between performance and a cleaner wheel. Hmmm. Don't know what to make or the "reduce" performance and feel possible under certain conditions.

What do you mean "read between the lines"? I see the statement as quite unambiguous: you have to pick better brake performance or lower amount of dust. Seems like a perfectly valid choice to offer the customers. After all, aftermarket parts offer the whole spectrum of trade-off like this.

we had a ton of brake dust on our 430 for about 18 months. we got chrome 18's to replace the graphites b/c the graphite looked dirty all the time while the chrome stays cleaner much longer. we never complained about the brake dust during that time.

but then at our 20k service, my very nice service advisor said i was down to under 20% life on the front pads and replaced my front pads for free under the TSB. so i was pretty happy about that. the brake dust is reduced dramatically, at least 75% i would say. but the brakes aren't as sensitive and takes a little more force to brake - although on the 430 that is probably a good thing b/c they were SUPER sensitive to begin with.

What I mean is that I consider brake performance as the top safety feature which I would never compromise. I just recently been in situation where thanks to a quick response of these "sensitive" brakes I avoided hitting a stupid **** deer jumping infront of me at night So, I was just trying to understand what that "reduction" reference is about. For example, will it affect the braking distance or will the brakes gonna require more pedal force, etc.

from my understanding both. More break pedal force required, and longer distance to stop...
no way would I compromise this, just to cut down on dust.
