ML headunit in non-ML car
#2
this is interesting, i would be interested in knowing if it can be done. there might be other components that are native to ML. Another issue is the fact that speakers might be different as well as the number of speakers.

Hey car lost i don't mean to be an ***, but did you READ MY POST. I didn't question whether it could be done as much as I was was emphasizing more on the other components that go along with the ML ie., speakers, # of speakers, amps, wiring and any other components that are native to ML. I think ML isn't isolated only to the head unit. i know for a fact there are more speakers. There may be other components as well. who knows i may be wrong

The key component parts of the ML system are the amplifier and speakers. When Lexus headunits go out, they are swapped with refurb. units that are done either by Denso or Fujitsu-Ten. All they do is refurb the internals and change the screen/face of the unit so it doesn't show any signs of wear. Chances are the replaced ML printed h/u you have is a refurb...and the labeling just happens to have ML on it. This is the case with most all Lexus h/u that are replaced under warranty. ML system's main key components are the amp and the speakers. With out them, it's not an ML system.

wow, now thats an eyeopener. rather than go through all that id like to keep my car as stock as possible. I dont want to mess too much with perfection. I'll admit there are a lot of hot mods on this site.
