cd got stuck in the cd player because of me,,, i pulled on it while it was getting sucked in,,, brought it to the dealer and they ordered me a new cd player,,,,,, they didnt notice that i dont have the ml navigation,,,,, came back to get it installed,,, and the service writer informed me they ordered the wrong one,,, i pushed her to install it anyways,,, and bam it works,,,,,, got a free ml deck,,,,,,,, doesnt have the sound quality,,,,, but i can watch dvd's now,,,, and boy is it clear

Is the sound quality the same as the non-ML setup? If so, I wouldn't mind messing up my cd player too. What dealer did you go to?

That's the easy step. The hard part will be finding a service advisor careless enough to order the ML unit for a non-ML car.

So, if your car comes without navigation, it isn't that hard to upgrade to it afterwards?

You don't get Nav functions, but based on the original post, the new unit will allow you to playback dvd's.

I have been looking for an ML deck but I wasn't sure if it would work.It's good to know it does.

car always had navigation,, just wasnt ml,,,,,,, everything works the same now,,,, only difference is that now i can play dvd's,,,,, sound quality isnt as good,,,,,,,,,, as ml,,,,, but who is complaining

Ah, I see. Good for you. Now just make sure you don't break this unit...don't want Lexus to put a non-ML back in.

I'm not too familiar with the GS but I do have a 2nd Gen IS w/ Nav. I do not have a ML HU but I do want to watch DVD's. According to this thread, a DVD changer replaced a CD Changer and it allowed the HU to play DVD Movies. My question is this:

Was only the DVD CHanger replaced?

Any particular software upgrades allowed this HU to play DVD's?

We all know that a DVD rom needs a player to Play DVD Movies. I was curious if this applied to the DVD CHangers as well.

Also, How was the DVD CHanger replaced? Was the whole HU Dissassembled for the swap? Please kindly share.

did they put the cost of the ML HU unit on the invoice by any chance? I would like to buy a ML unit and do the switch out...should be pretty easy if all the wire looms and plugs are the same knowing Lexus the ML deck is probably fairly expensive

no they didnt put the price,, cause they intended on putting in the navi,, but they accidentally ordered the ml,,, they had to change the whole unit by the way,, everything plugs up,, all u need is one little wire that cost a few bucks,, its a video wire if i remember correctly
