Best "mode" to drive in
Hey guys just wondering fuel economy/fun wise what the best settings to drive my car in are,I just discovered the ect/pwr switch and I've got to say,I love it in this mode even with traction control on,I find the car likes to spin much more in this mode with traction control off(obviously),so my question is I guess what do you guys run setting wise in your gs on a day to day basis? If it makes a difference I've got a 98 gs400,thanks for the help everyone

2000 GS400 I just leave it in PWR, VSC on
Only ever turn off that mode on long highway trips (hitting cruise stalk to bump up the speed seems to drop gears way too eagerly in PWR mode lol)
I just kind of got used to the pedal response and do a lot of city driving, and have the SRT ecu add on, so I find the PWR mode is just a lot livelier

I pop it into drive, accelerate and hover my foot over the brake pedal with my eyes scanning the road for pot holes, dips, reflectors, etc...all joking aside, I just put it into drive and go. I don't mess with the vsc, pwr, up or down buttons on the steering wheel or any of the lower "modes" on the shift plate.

Majority of the time I use the power mode once the car is fully warmed up. I find that it holds shifts a little longer and of course seems to be a little "sharper" as far as response goes.
Sometimes I will dip down into the lower gears by manually moving the selector lever down to 3rd or even 2nd for real good blasts off the line to get rid of aggressive tailgaters or other assorted idiots.

I usually leave it in 'Normal' mode but often flick it into the 'PWR' mode if i need to get away quicker such as at roundabouts or busy junctions.
I've also used the 'Snow' mode in the snow / ice and i've never had a problem.
Only time i leave it in 'PWR' mode is down twisty country lanes as i feel it makes the driving that bit more fun / sharper.
I leave the VSC alone.

random little thing I found, but clicking on "Snow" prevents the tranny from downshifting when you hit the brakes going downhill. Sometimes I just want to slow a little and I find the downshift kinda annoying. Just as well I'll use the snow setting for getting a bit better mpg's as it slows the bejesus out of the throttle. And I rarely use it in heavy traffic unless I want to hear people yelling at me...

I personally drove one week with power and one week without. I can't stand how the transmission shifts when not in power mode, especially the 2-3 shift. I feel like the engine is livelier and the transmission much more responsive in ect power so that is all I drive in.

To further my question what are the pros/cons of driving in ect pwr mode? I'm going to leave it in this mode as the car feels much more solid if that makes sense, thanks for the feedback so far everyone it's much appreciated

From what i've read/heard ect power remaps the transmission shift points, making them higher. Some people claim to have better throttle response but I don't think the mode has anything to do with the throttle, just the transmission.
Some think that the additional rpms with each shift will lower fuel economy, but I never saw a difference. I don't think it would be that significant on the fuel economy. I drive all the time in ect power and get 21 mpg mixed city and highway. Either way, the car is much peppier in ect power.
