Are HIDs too hot for high beams?

oh, really? i have been using them for about 5 years in my gs now

OP they will work fine, 2 issues with them...if your just using the high beams for a short quick time stay with non HID as the bulbs take a second to heat up to operating temp and two the light output will be scattered a little like when people put HID's in regular lights as its not meant to reflect the light from them but they work fine

This thread derailed pretty fast. Let me clarify a few things. I drive on a lot of back roads without streetlights. I have a '98, so no DRL for me. I also understand that there is less wattage, my question is about temperature. The OEM low beam HIDs flash with the alarm FYI.

I understand the various aspects of installing HIDs where there weren't from the factory. I just don't want to melt my headlight housing.
