Default Molding strip rails delaminating?

Hey guys. 99GS4, 150k miles, alpine silver.

I noticed the strangest thing yesterday with the driver's side molding strip rail (you know, the one that starts at the windshield, runs over the roof of the car and back down the rear window). Those are painted, right? Well, I noticed that the paint appears to be delaminating from the molding strip. In one spot it's so bad that it looks like I could actually peel the paint away from the strip in one piece.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it possible for paint to just delaminate from the plastic? What's the best way to fix this? Have them repainted? Somehow reattach the paint that's peeling away? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

BTW there is no way to re attach the paint unless you get it totally repainted.

Hey HI. Thanks for the link. Very interesting. So if I want to have it repainted, what are they supposed to do? Peel off the tape and apply paint directly to the molding strip or peel off the tape, apply fresh tape, and paint the tape? What did you decided to do? Leave it without the tape? Thanks for your help.

Same thing is happening to my car. I usually leave my car in the garage, but since the door isnt working properly, I have to leave my car out in the Texas heat. The tape is peeling off now on both sides and it does not look good. How would I go about removing the tape? Can I just peel it off or do I need to take that whole piece off and then remove the tape?

I took off the molding strip over ther weekend and used super glue to tack the tape back down. Suprisingly, it looks very good. I don't know if this solution would work, though, if your tape had peeled completely off. Mine was coming off only in certain spots, so the super glue did the trick.

Yea its silver underneath according to the other thread, but I didnt want to leave it silver cause I personally dont think it looks that good on my white GS. Might try to get it polished like Mr.Executive did to match the other chrome trim pieces. Anyone know the proper way of removing these things?
