Seat Belt Not Retracting...

Airbags won't blow unless:
-If you're driving and have a crash
-While you're messing with the airbag wirings...
If you've got your key OFF, it wont blow
Taking off the seatbelt off while driving or not will not blow the bag
But if you crash while you've got your seatbelt off though... I don't know.

1 being it did nothing and 10 being it fixed the problem completely, I'd say it's a 3-ish. Then again, mine might be worn out to the point where it doesn't have the same spring force as before. I haven't tried it on the passenger side though. I will probably get to it later today or tomorrow. The driver side will obviously be the one that's worn out the most.
Anyways, I fixed it and now it works just like new. The belt retracts all the way so you wont find yourself closing the door on the belt.
Air bags wont deploy. Just dont touch any wiring and you're good. It's pretty easy and well worth the time. I'm so glad I dont have to manually stuff my belt back in.

I would actually check with the dealer because it is a safety issue they should fix it for free. I had a honda before with a similair problem and I was trying to fix it until one of the mechanics at honda told me that the seat belt is a safety issue and therefore has a lifetime warranty on it. Well my car was out of factory warranty but I had no problem, they replaced both my driver and passenger seatbelts for free. If they refuse to fix it ask them to give it to you in writing.

GSspeed..It's real simple.
-Take out the lower plastic door sill (front and rear).
-Pull apart the rubber gasket along the panel
-Use a flathead screwdriver to pry apart the lower b-pillar piece (they're held on by clips).
-Down there, the retractor is held on by (1) 14mm bolt and (1) 10mm bolt. Remove those and that's just. Just follow the rest of the DIY on how to readjust the tension.

Seatbelts have a 6yr, 72K warranty, so if you are inside of these limits, the....
dealer will repair at no cost to you. I know, because I had the same problem at 82,000 miles and they would not repair the belts :-( bummer

Bringing this back from the dead...
Has anyone had any luck with this fix? I tried it and it did nothing. In fact, I might even say that its worse. Will I just have to suck it up and get a new retractor?
Anyone had any luck getting a warranty replacement from a dealer? 2000 GS btw.

The tutorial mentioned washing the belt. If you didn't then that is most likely still the problem. I had the same issue with my ls400's belt. The car has 350000 km and a lot of seat belt use! All I did was wash the belt with out doing the spring tensioning and it improved quite a bit. It's not all that evident how dirty it is until you have it out of the car in the light. Hope this helps someone. And one more thing. It does take a few days for it to dry properly so have patience for it to improve.
