Hey everyone. Tried the search feature nothing came up. I was going to get my engine bay steam cleaned, then i saw a program on the Speed channel that was saying it was bad to get it steam cleaned because moisture can collect in places where moisture shouldnt be. What is the best way to get a looks like new engine bay?

From day one I use compressed air (pan cake compressors which double as a way fill air) to blow away dust. So the engines look as good as they were at day 1. Now if you have a build up then more agressive techniques are needed. There is steam, foam and high pressure jet. Agressive techniques can cause a problem for electrnoics/sesnsors etc.

Water and Soap...stay away from harsh chemicals

I just used a product from Black magic called Engine cleaner, I LOVED the results.

Also, WD-40 can be used...

Cool. I used it on a girlfriends 2003 Celica engine bay, it had never been cleaned. She told me she took it to Toyota last week and the guys where like "wow that is a clean engine".

Gunk Engine Brite. Spray on. Let sit. Rinse off. Stay away from high pressure cleaning.......trust me.........

Rinse by your means is that using a hose on the engine bay? Kinda nervous in trying that.

I clean all my cars with Purple stuff. You can find it at advance auto. Its cheap and it works better than gunk and the other brands. I have better luck cleaning the motor when its cold. I have never had a sensor go bad, the worst thing ive had to do is blow water out of a connection or dry out the plug wires. Any one can clean a motor just be smart and dont put a heavy spray on your electric parts. If your **** like me a tooth brush and detail brushes work great

Im going to buy the stuff from auto zone tomorrow. What part of the engine bay should especially be avoided when rinsing with the hose? Thanks and a pic from an experienced detailer would be great!

Yes you can use a water hose just make sure the engine is cold and dont spary it directly at any electrical conections. They are sealed but if one gets water on the inside just unplug it, blow it out and plug it back in. No big deal just take your time and be careful.
