I got the 791xv installed months ago, right after I started the thread actually. I have had no problems with it. I got mine for 200 on Ebay and got it installed for 180. This is the best money I've ever spent on any of my cars. I've used the remote start every day so far this winter.

I don't work for DEI, but I've installed hundreds of their products, they always do what they claim to do and do it well...

Sounds like an installer issue... who ever installed your remote starter, did they program the alarm to "learn" the tach signal? Or do you just have it preset to attempt to crank for 2 or 3 seconds? ALWAYS learn the tach signal and it will prevent intermittent starting such as what you are describing. If installed & programmed properly, you should have years of trouble-free service from any of DEI products, they truly make good stuff...

Yup 791xv is really a solid unit. Have it installed in my car and it works awesome. I also install these as I am a authorized Directed dealer and we have very very few problems with the 791 itself. The remotes are usually what causes a problem but if you take care of it you shouldnt have a problem.
Now as far as the modules go, I am a very firm beleiver in the 556u. If you are worried about a theif finding the key there are two things, one if a criminal can find the key and get to it fast enough by taking the underdash down they deserve your car and secondly if you are that concerned CUT THE KEY THAT GOES IN THE BOX. that way no one can use it in the ignition. Yes you just cut a valet key that costs around 75-100 but is that really a lot of money in the grand scheme of things???
I can honestly say we have 3 problems with the x module to everyone 1 with a 556u. Good luck and enjoy the unit.
Also don't cut corners, buy it from an authorized dealer so you are insured a warranty on the unit.

I have a 02 gs300 sport design. I had the clifford matrix 50.5x installed that has a 1 mile. range. I went to a shop to have the 50.5 installed and the installer was up all night trying to get the remote start to work. He installed the alarm but couldnt get the remote start to work. I only had one key. he tried to program the 555x and couldnt do it. He said I would have to go with the 556 u. That would mean me getting a 2nd key for $130. I called another shop the guy said he programmed a 555x the day before. He charged me $75 to program it and it took him 20 mins.I only needed 1 key. I had it installed 7/06 it has started everytime. Great Alarm. It works real close to the mile range. If the installer installs it correctly it should work everytime.
