Low-Profile Tires And Comfortness
I would've posted this thread in the Tires forum but I feel that by posting here I'll probably get more feedback. Anyway on the my GS, I have all season performance low profile tires. The problem is that I have more of a bumpy ride. This was the same symptom of my last car. Are there any mods that can be done to soften the blow. I'm not really driving on pothole infested streets but here and there I'll see a crack in the street that causes things inside the car to rattle which would normally would not happen if I had my stock wheels and tires.

If the tires are low-profile, you're literally dealing with physics: less rubber between you and the road, therefore energy has less resistance to transfer from the ground to your car. And it's probably stiffer rubber, which again is not helping the ride. I dunno what you can do to get around that quandry.

You can try tires with thinner sidewalls and softer compound. I went from 18" Bridgestone SO3 to Michelin Pilot Sport 2. The Michelin were alot quieter and comfortable.

You may want to try Pirelli PZero Neros (18"). They still provide a smooth ride and are quiet. Like the previous post said, it is going to be stiffer ride because the tire is not as tall and softer rubber. The bright side is a little better handling.

I'm confused about this. Your not the first to make this statement. I went from the stock 5 spoke 16's with the factory Goodyears to aftermarket 19's with General UHP 35 series all around. No difference in the ride quality. Road noise is actually less, but that's because the Goodyears were worn down to the tread markers. Perhaps the rough ride is suspension related? Or tire pressures? If it is tire related then I highly recomend the Generals.

Reduce the air pressure in your tires. (Of course this only works if your pressure is really high. I run 34 in the front and 36 in the rear. When my wheels were shipped to me they were at 45+. Sounded like a pop can every time I hit a bump.
Softer compounds will render a quieter ride. You need to find a way to soften the blow. Reducing pressure will help. Even a pound or two can make a difference.

Believe it or not I contribute my smooth ride alot on my Tein CS. I've had my stock 16s to 17s to 18s. Never had 19s so I cant say. But on my 20s weren't bad at all running Falkens 245-35-20. But I still drive slow in problem areas.
I wouldnt recommend letting air off your rims. I think you risk bending them easier as well.

i second this comment... my friend is on 19's at over 40psi and he thought dropping it into the 30's would soften up his ride... sure enough he ended up bending one of his wheels on a sunken manhole cover and caused a bubble to form in his sidewall

the Kumho ASX got a really good review on TireRack...I went with them. I have L tuned and espiler and before the switch I thought the ride was worse bump wise...would shake the change in the car. The ASX's are pretty lookin too. I just can't see spendin big cash on tires when they all wear out around the same time.

There's no way I will reduce the air pressure in my tires since all four have 35PSI. I'm risking getting a rim bent if I lower the pressure. I love the handling and all but I'm like "Damn" when it comes to stuff that easily rattles in the car now. I will look into this more but for now I'll deal with a somewhat bumpy ride.
