wish list for mid life cycle refresh
Lexus doesn't seem to be too big on mid life cycle refreshes unlike BMW and Mercedes. Unfortunately for Lexus, I don't think they've figured out that by doing refreshes and bringing "limited" edition models towards the end of the life cycle helps keep the car "new" and fresh to draw in new customers or even trade up customers. In any case, with this recent change in direction for Toyota and Lexus to make the brands more exciting maybe this will change.
If they do some changes, here is what I'd like to see not in any particular order.
1. Introduce some new engines. The 3.5L v-6 has been tried and tested and since they dropped the v-8 for the 4gs, there seems to be a hole that needs to be filled.
a. Please bring a 400hp engine. I'd say make a 3.2L v-6 twin or single turbo if possible. Toyota/Lexus has been reluctant to use turbos but they know that they're going to have to because all of the competitors are using turbos and getting much better efficiency and much better driving dynamics. (Max torque is arrived at much lower rpm vs n/a engine and is generally much flatter.)
2. Introduce some kind of factory package where all of the chrome is blacked out or matted out. The German cars seem to get this right when you order a sport package in that all of the chrome is normally blacked out or matted out.
3. Allow LED headlights on normal models rather than just hybrid models.
4. I really do love the front end of the GS F-sport so I don't really know how they could improve this on a refresh but I would like them to update the lower fascia on the GS F-sport and remove the fake exhaust tip to allow for exposed exhaust tips on the F-sport. Maybe put in a more pronounced diffuser as well.
5. Bring in some carbon fiber accessory which I would like to see lead into using a lot more carbon fiber in the next generation of cars. BMW is doing a great job of integrating cf in their m cars. Some of these Lexus cars are getting way too heavy. Put them on a diet and use cf in more of their cars.
6. Lastly, let's see the GS-F already.

I agree on getting some CF accessories for our cars. Shoot i'd take any readily available accessories at this point without the shipping and wait time from Japan.

Well, the turbos are coming. I think NX will be the first model to have it.
Lexus is also working on new engines. The GS will be getting an updated engine soon too.
LED headlights are available here in the US as well, they just cost an arm and a leg.
GS-F is being tested as we speak.
The future is bright, I need my shades

Let's see what gets updated this summer. With the new infotainment remote there has to be more coming. Big Asia auto show end of this month where the LS will be front and centre so perhaps news of the GSF and some updates will arrive for 2015. Be thankful you get to select your options in US, in Canada we get GS F sport one way and it's missing a lot of comfort options like parking assist, power fold mirrors and the like

To bam's comments on Lexus not being big on mid life cycle refreshes, I would suggest they sure fixed up the 2014 CT in major ways. Anyhow, my wishes for mid life update would include LED headlights standard, less thirsty, more powerful engines and an GS 300h option - IMO making the hybrid the most expensive GS is "counter intuitive".
