Default Headlights & taillights only work when switch to auto

As the title says both my headlights and taillights only work when the switch on the column is turned to auto. Which means they only work when its dark outside. So if its raining or when it starts to get dark I cannot turn on my lights. Or if I want to turn on just my parking lights I cannot do this. I realize I can cover the sensor to get my lights to work in the daytime but thats not the fix Im looking for. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it would the light control stalk itself. Mine was bad and my brights would only work if I pull it forward and held it.
