Door wont stay shut
Ok guys really need some help with this one. This morning my son was holding the handle up when I unlocked the doors on my 96 gs300. Now the locking mechanism won't hold the door shut. When I hit the door locks the door switch moves 1/2 and goes back to unlocked. If i try to lock it by hand I can't push more than 1/2 way. So the actuator seems to be functioning. I'm not sure what actually holds that locking mechanism in place. So needless to say I can't dry cause the door will fly open nor can I secure my car cause all you have to do is pull the door and it opens right up. So please, any advise or previous experience will be a HUGE help. Also all the how - to articles for actuator swaps I find are for 2nd gen gs300's. I might try to replace the whole locking mechanism if I can get 1 at the scrap yard.

Jeesh I wish I could help that sounds terrible. All I know is you should pull off the door panel and see whats preventing the lock from functioning fully. I just had my rear window prevent from staying up because a little plastic clip broke and even though the motor works the whole thing doesn't function any more because of one little plastic part I don't even think I can buy by itself lol. Good luck!

Door panel
Yeah I got the panel off but nothing seemed to be getting caught up. I used rachet strap to get the door shut so all my stuff doesnt get stolen. Im hoping the gs300 is still in the local scrap yard so i can just obtain the entire mechanism. worse part is i was planning on selling the old girl on sunday. I figured that she wouldn't go without a fight.

Me too....
Yeah I literally went through that manual page by page this morning.... nothing..... I'm going to the scrap yard when I leave work. I'm prying the 97 gs300 is still there. If so I'll take some videos of taking the door apart . That way if someone gets into the same predicament they can learn from my mistakes lol. I wish I would have left the door opened. Now that it's stuck closed it will be a BIZNATCH to get it opened.

door lock actuator.... I had to replace mine. I couldn't open the door and I had to go in there and manually get the door to unlock before I could even open the door. It was not fun but not too bad. Just time consuming. Worst part is trying to get to the bolts on the bottom of the door panel with the door stuck shut. Make sure you have a stubby phillps.

figured it out
Ok guys so the bar from the lock mechanism that attaches to the door handle had a plastic clip that broke off. I'm trying to find a door handle removal how to. I'm actually headed to the local "you pick it, you pull it". So I'm hoping to get a entire door handle.
