I'm not much of a fan of the new grill, but yes, the old one does look a bit dated. To me the ES is the best combination of styling elements. The new Lexus grill theme is not as "toothy" looking.

I think the changes make the 13-15 look dated because the changes aren't "mild." In my mind, mid cycle changes usually just have a few minor updates to the keep the same body style fresh. The F-Sport variant of the GS looks a lot different esp. from the front end because of the headlamp and grille update. There was a 2016 GS behind me the other night and I knew it wasn't a 13-15 model. When the 2GS went from 2000 to 2001's refresh and when the 3GS went from the 2007 to 2008 refresh, you had to be very keen on the differences to know.
I don't think its a bad thing at all - heck if i had a 2016 GS i'd want it to stand apart from the person driving the 2013...creates more of an incentive for Lexus to get folks to buy/lease a 2016 rather than buy/lease a 2-3year old version that looks identical.
I definitely like the 2013-2015 and feel its is a very handsome, sporty, well-rounded and bullet-proof car. The 2016 just adds all the tweaks and updates to make it even more polished...but makes the pre-cycle refresh look a bit dated IMHO.

I don't think its that drastic of a change to call the car "dated", as the grill is generally the same shape, its now just much more exaggerated. Personally I think the previous design looked better, the current front is a bit overwrought, especially considering the rest of the car is still a pretty conventional sedan shape.
As for dated, look at the 2006-2012 GS. I never cared for that design when it came out, looked too much like the Jaguar XF. IMO it is that previous era of Lexus, lets not take any risks on the styling because we got universally panned(and rightfully so) on the last risky styled car we put out, the SC430.

Call me biased as a '13 F-sport owner, but I think the '13-'15 F sport had the perfect blend of luxury and aggressive looks that flows better with the rest of the body. The '16 F-sport front end is a bit too busy looking compared to the rest of the car IMO.
I do prefer the '16 non F-sport over the '13-'15 though.

Yes I definitely think it makes it look a little dated, but only because of the tail lights. LOL. I'm not a fan of the updated front at the moment, way too busy looking for me. Maybe it will grow on me. The tail lights though, wowzers. Then again the tail lights of the 13-15 looked dated from the getgo.

I think the 13-15 GS still looks great, though I do love the new front end. When I bought my 15 they had 16s on the lot, but it wasn't worth the price for me (great deals on the 15s at the time).
Coming from a '14 IS, I actually liked taking a break from such a radical front end/grill.

I'm in the market again for a new car and I'm looking at the price more then the changes in 15-16 cause it's practically similar car with similar chassis. If it was an engine upgrade would have definitely gone for the 16.

Well, technically it is an engine upgrade/new engine, just not a vert substantial one.

Yes I feel the 13-15 MY GS looks dated. I personally love what Lexus has done to the new refreshed GS. I'd love to own one but I'm considering buying a Range Rover for my next vehicle.

As a completely unbiased 2014 driver....I don't think they look dated. I like the look of all the 4GS models. I've also seen some nice 3GS that don't even look dated to me, while I've seen others that look quite dated. I'm not familiar enough with the 3GS to know the differences of why in those cases (a clean car certainly helps look newer).
While this is a 4GS forum, I would say the new ES models are a good improvement that makes the ~ 13-15 ES look more dated.
