front gs350 damaged from freeway debris
happened last night on a CA freeway. not sure if it was a torn up tire or what.
changed lanes and saw it too late to react.
thought i was clear to at least drive over it. thought worse case, it'll scratch up the bottom panels. but nope, did front bumper damage.
this is a serious question, can i sue the city? or somebody?
this pisses me off...

It sucks that this happened, but as far as lawsuits, what would your position be, in terms of suing the city (or county or state since this sounds like this occurred on the freeway), AND if there's any existing precedent from prior court decisions where the city/county/state was ever held liable for damage/injuries that occurred on said roadway/freeway from the legal argument you or your attorney would be arguing from. And I know that there are very very few specific cases where a government entity has ever been held liable for anything that happens on city/county/state roads. It would have to be something like the road being ripped up from ongoing construction work which causes numerous vehicle's tires to blow out on the road, and for numerous people to have filed complaints/claims, and the city/county/state don't act in a reasonable amount of time to ensure public safety. And even if fault were assigned, the liability might fall on the construction company doing the work, whose insurance would ultimately be responsible to pay out any judgement.
Full disclosure, I have no idea what I'm talking about but I did stay at a Holliday Inn last night

If there was damage from construction debris (construction on the side of the road perhaps), you may have had a chance - but with tire damage (unless you can somehow prove who left that on the road), you may not have a case.
My earlier car had front bumper damage from some construction area gravel (large sized) that was kicked up by a car in front. I reached out to the city and they took the construction company to task. They asked me for an estimate for the repair - got it from dealership. About a month (and 4-5 Emails) later, I had the check from the construction company. Didn't involve my insurance company or the cops.

Really hard to get anyone to pay that. I was driving on the freeway (SoCal) and saw a bolt fall off the flatbed truck in front of me and I could not avoid it so it bounced on my hood and windshield. It did not crack the windshield but it left a quarter sized dent and gouge in the hood.
I got the phone number off of the side of the truck and called. They were apologetic and said they will call me back with information after they call their insurance company. A few hours later they called but had a different tone. The guy basically said the insurance company stance is if I don't have video of the bolt coming off their truck then they have no liability and will not pay anything.

How damage is your bumper, if it's just paint scrap then you can weight your time vs 300$ front paint job. Happened once on my RX but it wasn't too much got Lexus touch up paint and some buffing took care of it.
