The Infamous Dash Noise
All these years I never really concentrated on the noise coming from the dash area on wires car until she started complaining about it saying "A Lexus should not have these mysterious creaking noises!" and now it bugs the crap outta me each time I have to drive the car!
A friend told me he took his IS to the dealer 3 times on this issue and they ended up tearing the entire dash off twice to locate this issue on his. Supposedly it had something to do with the plastic dash clips or something that held it together?
Have any of you experienced this issue and did they fix it for you on a warranty basis? My warranty is expired so don't know what they would rape me with to look into this irritating noise and fix the problem? Now that the Mrs. complains about it all the time its gonna be one of those "honey do" tasks I am saddled with Im sure!
Thanks in advance if anyone knows the origin of this creak!

yes i had mine at the dealer when i had my car and they tried to say it was the clips that hold the windshield. they tore my dash apart and fixed it for me. others have gone to the dealer and tried but the noise ended up coming back. seems very hit or miss. an easy fix is just to get some black felt from a fabric store and push it down between the dash and the windshield. it will be hidden and it takes care of the noise. its a cheap fix that works

Depends on which car and even what year it was made. There is a rich thread on the 2006 GS here. I mention how I found noise caused by the plastic cowl under the windshield wipers. The cowl was redesigned later. A very simple, non-invasive test for this is to remove the cowl as explained here. If the noise goes away, or not, you know something new and how to proceed.

I had they exact same noise on rough roads and it was more noticeable in the winter. I added multipurpose weather strip by dash and windshield and it's gone. Menards SKU: 4366454

Is is a gneee-gneee type of sound? I fixed it, it was indeed the windshield cowl. So far so good.
Felt between the dash and the windshield fixed dashboard vibrations but not this noise, hence my hair pulled out trying to solve this problem. At least it's done!
