Default Dash rattle noise

I kept hearing some noise for quite sometime on rough roads, but never on highways. I thought it is related to suspension and kept complaining to the dealer and they would promptly come back with everything is alright. During the weekend I went to a different dealer and mentioned about the noise and the tech did the test ride and immediately pointed it out as dash rattle. The tech was able to place his hand on the dash close to the windshield (slightly to the right of the steering wheel) and the noise stopped on the rough roads. I have 97K miles right now on the car and I have the extended warranty I shared this with the service rep and he is going to let me know if it will be covered.

I have a similar but, I think, louder rattle coming from the right side. I know there are no suspension issues as I've just had all the arms replaced. I had suspected the dash, or at least that the rattle came from the glove box area. I had even driven on rough roads and tried to press firmly on that area of the dash....It seemed to quieten a bit.

I'll be interested in your results.

Me too. Not sure if it's the console, dash or glove box

There is a TSIB for that issue (look under the sticky section) the noise comes from the clips holding the dasboard.

Yes LS2K is correct, this is a known issue. Please utilize the search feature for more details on posts already existing

Alternatively, you can use the following search string in Google, omitting the quotes:

"site:clublexus.com/forums/ls460-ls460l-and-ls600h dash rattle"

I find using Google more detailed in results and more flexible in search string parameters than the built-in search functions of many forums.

Default Dash rattle update

All - I got my car back from dealer. My rattle is fixed and tech only charged $45 for labor. I did not get a chance to talk to the tech since I dropped off, but the service rep said, the tech isolated the rattle and added "insulation" whatever that means. All my presets for satellite radio are gone, which tells me that instrument panel was opened up and some work was performed.

The last days of extended warranty came to rescue for a leaking water pump and it was covered. Car is running well now.

Next time I will request the same Tech to work on my car if the rattle ever came back. As of now everything looks good and planning to keep the car post $100K.

I had they exact same noise on rough roads and it was more noticeable in the winter. I added multipurpose weather strip by dash and windshield and it's gone. Menards SKU: 4366454

If they disconnected the battery for long enough i believe the presets will erase. Glad you got it fixed.

I'm glad your rattles are gone. I doubt that they removed the instrument panel and only charged $45 labor. At the very least they would have had to drop the steering column down to remove it or remove the steering wheel.

Does it sound like a quiet squeak that you only hear when going over rough terrain? My car does that, but it is barely audible. Sounds like suspension but maybe it isn't? It's pretty damn subtle and you'll miss it if you're not paying attention. Not very loud.
