Very happy with my MPG's in the 460
Hi guys,
As some of you know, I just recently bought a '08 GS 460. This past weekend, I took her from San Jose down to LA for the first long road trip. I was expecting between 24 - 26 mpg's based on everything I read.
To my surprise, I got 29! (well using my own calculations it was actually around 28.6 mpg, but this is awesome. Thought I'd share with the group and anyone considering the V8 power. We were cruising at typical speeds, and this was in some Memorial weekend traffic as well.

Two people in the car with luggage and so forth. For me was that we were cruising at pretty good speeds - minus the traffic sections. If you all know this drive, there are actually two mountain sections where we have to climb out of valleys (Silicon & Central) - effectively I'm getting the same MPG's as we did in my 98 240sx with half the cylinders :-)

This is something i have been saying for years on this board. My 460 consistently get better MPG than my parents' 450H. So just because it's a hybrid doesn't mean it will get better gas mileage. A lot of it is related to driving condition, routine, and habits. Also, remember the 450H has to haul around 400lbs of dead weight when the battery is depleted.

Lets do a comparo.
A few 0-top speed limiter runs and a few roll-ons side by side. Bet the 450 is able to keep up if not beat the 460 and get better mpg doing so. I know that after 80-90mph...I walk away from 460's
I average 25-27mpg with my 450 in the summer months. I go through 56 lights each way to work. No highway. I get that per tank. Highway trips, Ive averaged 29.8mpg with a tank
If im beating the crap out of my car. Punching it from stop and nailing it around cars. I get 20-23mpg.
The battery is 190lbs fyi. The transmission with its two massive motors is where the extra weight is. The battery never gets depleted because the ICE motor will constantly recharge it. Its not like the gas motor is having to spin all that rotational mass.
