Default Is MPG for LS460 so great?

I do cross shopping ofr several makes, and LS460 in my list. I noticed reports for LS460 as 32mpg freeways and 22 in city. It is hard to believe. Can somebody confirm that? Another car is Genesis 4.6 in my list. It claimed as the best MPG for this power, however Lexus looks better.

those are EPA numbers. when i had my ls460l, even modded (worse mpg), with totally mixed driving i got about 24mpg. that's unbelievable for 380hp heavy setup imho

if you purely do freeway driving at 70mph, maybe you can get around 30mpg or more? but that's corner case imho

Mixed for me is around 24 MPG, pure highway at 70 MPH and one passenger is 30 MPG, with a full load of 4 adults it is more like 28 MPG on my SWB LS460.

I agree... for a car this size with 380 HP that's awesome

I saw a high of 31.3 mpg on my trip to Reno a couple of weeks ago.

Its sometimes hard to believe until you fill up and compare the gallons burned with the miles traveled on the trip meter. Excellent for a heavy car with 380 H.P. Direct injection technology is a big reason.

The best I can do for highway driving is 26 mpg (although that's at 75 mph). However, I'm in New England so there is a lot of up and down hills.

No matter how you save coasting down a hill, you use up more getting up the hill in the first place!

I get around 18 to 21 in town.

Just got back from a banzai run to Dallas and back and got 29 to 30 running anywhere from 70 to 85. I usually run between 5 and 15 over the posted, except in towns then I cool it. Got a warning for 78 in a 70... ;->

My cumulative average after 8K miles is 19.5. Can't quite get it over the 20 mark. I drive a 50/50 mix of town and freeway.

Well im averaging around 22-23 with my LS430, im pretty sure you guys should be right around there or even better if driven mostly on the highways due to the fact that the car comes with the 8speed tranny!

This guy just mentioned Gensis in the shopping list along with the LS460, you can get two of those for the price of one LS, how could you be in the market for one of these cars at the same time!!

i just got back from a 1200 mile trip up and down california and I averaged around 25mpg on the highway going 90mph average.

i probably can get 28mpg if i go 65-70mph average. one of the reasons i think this is so good people forget it is an 8 speed, at 90mph the rpm is like 2500 or less, going 75 the rpm is like 2k. Going 65mph it is under 2k kind of like the engine is just slightly above a high idle. I imagine this will also allow the engine to have a lifespan of 1.5x regular cars that spin at 3k at 65mph.
