So the car cranks over fine, starts and then dies. And also backfires. Given these symptoms GSBeliever, your first recommendation is check the battery? Maybe the starter? Why not just post "I HAVE NO IDEA". That would at least be honest.

OP:
Yea, there must be a code being thrown, get that first and we can make some suggestions. There are a few things I can think of including something simple as oxygen senors, TPS or APPS sensors or as bad as a body control module (highly doubt that one though). Get some numbers and we can chime in
